A new base for your hunt in the Klein Karoo

This is open Karoo country: rock, fynbos, plains and quiet. You hunt by day and come back to a private camp that is yours for the stay. Single hunters, small groups and families are all welcome. The hunt is built around you, rifle or bow, with a professional hunter in the field and a comfortable base waiting when you get in.

Where you stay

Two self-catering options. Both are private, both are stocked for a proper stay.

River Lodge. Inside the game camp, fully off the grid and solar powered. Sleeps 6 to 10. The main lodge has a queen room, an open-plan lounge with a fireplace, a kitchen, a bar and a bathroom. Two further rooms sit beside it, one queen and one with two singles, with an outside shower and toilet. For a full party of 10, two permanent safari tents about 100 metres from the lodge each have a double bed, shower and toilet. A 4×4 is recommended to reach the lodge. Private vehicles do not drive inside the game camp.

The Farmhouse. About 9 km outside the camp, quieter and easier to reach. Sleeps 6 across three bedrooms, with queen beds and two singles, a walk-in shower, double basin and a full kitchen.

Linen and towels are provided. Check-in is from 14:00, check-out by 10:00.

Between hunts

Stargazing

Very little light pollution. Winter nights are the clearest. Summer evenings are warmer.

On foot or by bike

Trails through rock, fynbos and open country. Walks and bicycles are how guests move inside the camp.

Game drives

Morning or afternoon, in a safari vehicle, with a guide. Eland, gemsbok, giraffe, kudu, sable, nyala, zebra, blesbok, springbok and ostrich are on the property, along with smaller game and good birdlife.

Birding and photography

Fish eagle, malachite kingfisher, Narina trogon, Knysna turaco and Cape robin-chat are among the birds recorded here. Golden light on the plains makes the early and late drives the best for a camera.

Quadbike safaris

Guided rides across plains and rougher ground, suited to first-timers and experienced riders.

Giraffe walks

A guided walk with the giraffe, usually early or late in the day.

The hunt

Plains game on a private reserve, with mountain country on the doorstep and the Baviaanskloof at the boundary. You are based on the property, so there is no daily transfer and the day can flex with the animals and the weather.

Species, duration and rifle or bow are confirmed when you enquire. We do not publish a fixed package here because every Arc safari is built for the client in front of us.
